Mother INDIA...??

We worship her in temples, fold hands in front of her and offer garlands to her. We are protected in her womb before birth, get nutrition from her milk and get love blessings from her all our lives no  matter how we treat her. All of us know our mother deserves respect then how dare we forget the role of a woman in our lives and her never ending unconditional favours..?

We promote our country, celebrate national festivals, cheer our national team screaming aloud "Bhaarath Maata ki Jai" but we hail her only in words... Crime against women has been on the rise be it female foeticide, violence or torture. Harrasment and rapes have now become just another part of news and our lives but worse is the intensity of the crime which has been inflating.

One Aruna is left lifeless since forty years & is still nursed by strangers. One Nirbhaya dies fighting for her life even after being brutalized & is supported by the whole nation. One five year old Gudiya's soul leaves her body after experiencing the most demonous inhuman behaviour.

Women are constantly blamed to be dressed provocatively and being out of their homes after dusk. What would those "Protectors of women's interest" say after this animosity with Gudiya? The little girl would have just started enjoying her childhood. She would have barely known what it is to be a girl and I am ashamed to say that she was introduced to feminity in a manner that I dont have words to comprehend.

These victims only want to live. Every woman has a right to freedom but unfortunately she is being denied her basic right to live. How can someone not see a mother, wife, friend, sister or daughter in a female? In all forms, she is entitled to respect and care and not animosity!

After thousands of such reported and more unreported incidents, our law still gives liberty to the criminals to walk about freely and all our honourable country heads have to say is "Change Your Attitude". To add on TOI held an article in which an association gives directives to women travellers in India. 'Dont wear short skirts, Dont hold hands or show affection in public, Dont share a meal, Dont drink from the same glass'. Well I guess they want women to become untouchables!!

Our civilization is anyway taking a U turn as we witness people behaving more "Junglee" than those from the stone age. In that case, I dont see the day quite far when we would prefer making our laws and punishing criminals all by ourselves to protect our dear ones because apraadhik maansikta wale asaamaajik tatvo ke liye yahan koi jagah nahi hai.

Rest in Peace..
                       Nirbhaya, Gudiya....

Stay Strong and Safe
God Bless

Chandra Daga
